Release. Receive. Renew.
New beginnings > Perfect endings
Whatever it is.
Forgive yourself.
You did your best.
Let it go.
-Will Bowen
Holding onto a thing for too long or too tight is often always at a detriment to the holder. Think about how often we see children exclaim “mine!” in defiance when you attempt to take away something they shouldn’t have in their hand or mouth. Parents then have to enter a tug-o-war to pry said object from their tiny opponent, which typically results in a meltdown. It’s human nature to not want to give up the thing(s) we possess or fixate on in the moment, even with the promise of something better on the other side. We would rather overstay our welcome in our comfort zone, then to step into the territory of the unknown that a new beginning lends us.
If we dig deeper, we understand that often we hold onto false beliefs that release = failure, that giving up is a sign of weakness, or that somehow our choice reflects that we were not enough. None of that reigns true, as these feelings are a mere deception of fear (false evidence appearing real), but the surmounting misinformation that we digest can leave even the most confident person questioning taking that necessary step.
The healing journey will take you through versions of yourself that are reflective of the current stage of the growth process you are in. Along the way, it will be difficult to shed those outdated layers that weigh you down. It will be even more challenging to let go of the activities and characteristics that no longer align with the trajectory of your growth. You will undoubtedly feel pain as you have to reevaluate the relationship(s) with yourself and others that contradict your self worth. The reality is that holding onto these things past their expiration date only prevents the newness that is waiting to meet you at your next level of growth. (Our humanness thinks that waiting on the “right time” will somehow lessen the pain or fuel our personal tank by checking off an accomplishment; but that postponement is literally keeping us in a holding pattern, which blocks our ability to receive at the next level.)
We must remember that the most glorious part of the day ending sunset, is the unknown masterpiece of color that will paint the evening sky. But we would never experience that beauty if the sun didn’t bid its farewell…
